The Honorable Sandra B. Sciortino
Her Story
The Honorable Sandra B. Sciortino dedicated her life to the pursuit of justice, the advancement of women, the importance of education, and the belief that one person can make a lasting difference in the lives of others.
From her beginnings as a young woman growing up in Patchogue, Long Island, to her distinguished career as a New York State Supreme Court Justice, Sandra built a life defined by determination, integrity, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to the community she proudly called home.
After earning her undergraduate degree from SUNY Oswego and a master’s degree from Lehman College, Sandra pursued a career in law, graduating cum laude from Pace University School of Law in 1986. She went on to establish a respected legal career spanning more than two decades in private practice before her election to the New York State Supreme Court in 2012.
Throughout her career, Sandra understood that the law was about more than statutes and decisions. It was about people, fairness, dignity, and ensuring that every individual had an opportunity to be heard.
Her commitment to service extended well beyond the bench. Sandra served as President of the Orange County Bar Association, President of the Women’s Bar Association of Orange and Sullivan Counties, and President of the Washingtonville Central School District Board of Education. She was also a leader in the Children’s Rights Society, reflecting her dedication to protecting children and strengthening families.
A passionate advocate for women, Sandra believed deeply in creating opportunities for others to succeed. She championed the importance of education, professional mentorship, and women’s voices within the legal profession and the broader community.
Yet, for all her professional accomplishments, Sandra’s greatest pride was her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose warmth, humor, generosity, and strength touched countless lives.
Sandra’s legacy cannot be measured solely by the positions she held or the honors she received. It lives in the people she inspired, the opportunities she helped create, the community she served, and the family she loved.
